Fractured front teeth
Front teeth are often fractured as a result of an accidental hit in the face. Bike accidents and swimming pool diving are two of the most common causes. In this event, when only part of the natural crown of the teeth is missing, the remaining healthy teeth can be repaired with composite resin material in one single appointment.
Of course care must be taken to check if the remaining tooth is whole and there’s no fracture of the root, as in the case of multiple fractures, so an xray needs to be taken to verify that if possible. Another important issue is involvement of the pulp in the fracture. If the nerve of the tooth is exposed the tooth needs to be root canal treated before building it up whole again, to avoid pain from pulp necrosis and a possible periapical lesion of the root.
In any case a six months’ follow up is recommended because although there might not be an evident reason, still the nerve can eventually necrotize.
